Statistics show the average age of first-time moms has risen from 24.9 15 years ago to 26.3.

According to Yahoo News, women are prioritizing study, starting a career, traveling and paying off student loans over settling down and starting a family.

This means women are looking at starting a family later than ever.

However, according to Dr. Gillian Lockwood, medical director at the Midland Fertility Clinic in the U.K., the ideal age to get pregnant is 25.

“It may not be true that women should be having babies at the time of the GCSEs but they shouldn’t leave it much later than graduation.”

Lockwood warns that fertility treatments after 40 have a very low success rate, with a less than 5% chance of working.

    Hi all,
I am 30 and very ready now. My partner still wants to wait a year, he is younger than me.

Influencing factors for me were that I wanted to travel more, didn’t have a stable relationship and didn’t think I would settle anywhere before 35.
If I had money, maybe I would have considered earlier – a house on wheels with a baby is definitely appealing to me.
So yes, financially I am also hesitant, as I would like to take 3 years off for mommy time. But there are loans, rent and bills to pay too.
