$43 Million Investment In New Vegan Food Company!
The Evolution Of Healthy Fast Food Delivery Is Making Waves And Big Names Want In.
Serena Williams, Gwyneth Paltrow, Bobby Flay, Shaun White. What do these well-known celebrities have in common? They have all taken notice of the rise of veganism and the shift to plant-based eating. These celebrities have eagerly partnered up with food delivery company Daily Harvest to bring “real, unprocessed, unrefined foods in the most convenient format possible: frozen”. The New York based company was backed by investors including actress Gwyneth Paltrow and Serena Williams in their first round of funding. According to Fortune Magazine, the startup was able to raise $43 million dollars in a second round of funding. It was led by venture capital firm Lightspeed Venture Partners, VMG Partners, M13, actress Haylie Duff, chef Bobby Flay and pro snowboarder Shaun White.
Daily Harvest was created after founder Rachel Drori was looking for a way to eat healthy despite having no time to make it happen. This dilemma resulted in the creation of ready made superfood filled options delivered right to your doorstep. The food company first began delivering smoothies and currently also provide soups, parfaits and overnight oats. Plans to add on lunch and dinner options will begin in January.
The Daily Harvest website breaks down the reasoning behind their frozen approach here. It compares the nutrient value of fresh fruits and veggies versus frozen. They are also aware that 50 percent of produce in the U.S. is thrown away solely due to its appearance so they don’t discriminate and make use of it all and assure you that “you’d never know the difference”.
