Man Punches Female Vegan Activist At Pizza Express Protest
A protest by Direct Action Everywhere (DxE) turned violent on September 27 when a DxE activist was punched in the face by a member of the public.
The protest took place in the UK city of Brighton at a local Pizza Express restaurant. Members of DxE walked into the establishment carrying signs and megaphones and began telling customers about the cruelty inherent in their choice of eatery.
In a video posted on Twitter by DxE Brighton, you can see customers of Pizza Express intimidating the protestors by leaning close to their faces and speaking harshly. The incidence of violence began when a male customer pushed a woman blocking his path. The protestor turned around to confront him, and the man lashed out and punched her in the face.
The man can be heard saying “You are scaring these people, f**k off now.”
The staff of Pizza Express gently restrained the man, and one member of the staff can be seen patting the man’s back.
Vegan Activist Response
The activists continued the protest despite the violence, before being forced out of the restaurant.
DxE Brighton posted the video on Twitter with a caption reading “The oppression and commodifying of non human animals is so normalised [sic] that some people react violently to those speaking up for the victims.”
The names of the aggressor and the victim have not been released to the public.
