Starbucks To Add Vegan Patty Breakfast Sandwich To The Menu

by | February 3, 2020

Starbucks has confirmed that it will add a plant-based breakfast sandwich to the menu in the US and Canada.

Scheduled to launch later this year, this will be the first time a vegan meat alternative is put on the global chain’s breakfast menu.

“We will be introducing a breakfast sandwich this year with a plant-based patty both in US and Canada” confirmed Roz Brewer, Starbucks COO.

“The combination of those pairings is significant for us in terms of how we think about what the customers [are] asking for us to develop.”

The company has not yet confirmed which supplier it will team up with to create the sandwich.

An online petition launched last year asked the coffee chain to put a Beyond Meat sausage sandwich on the breakfast menu — nearly 20,000 people added their signatures.

The coffee giant recently announced plans to encourage customers to choose plant-based milk for their drinks. The chain has also pledged to become more sustainable in a number of ways in order to halve its carbon footprint

“Our aspiration is to become resource positive,” said Kevin Johnson, Starbucks CEO, promising that “alternative milks will be a big part of the solution.”
