Vegan Deli Wins Best New Restaurant Award
Vegan deli Rebel Cheese has won the title of “Best New Restaurant” in Austin, Texas.
The deli was selected for the honor as part of the CultureMap’s Tastemaker Awards, which is voted for by local residents. This is the very first time that a vegan business has won the “Best New Restaurant” award.
Kirsten Maitland and Fred Zwar — a husband and wife team — opened Rebel Cheese together in 2019.
“The Wonderful World Of Veganism”
“We started Rebel Cheese to have an impact on animal welfare, the environment, and our health,” said Maitland.
“Winning the CultureMap award, and being the only vegan establishment against omnivorous restaurants, is a big win for our mission.”
“We hope this will convince more people that vegan cheese and meat alternatives can taste just as good as (if not better than) animal-based products, and in turn encourage more newcomers to the wonderful world of veganism.”
