World’s Biggest Meat Company Opens Vegan Food Technology Hub In Brazil

by | January 13, 2020

JBS — the world’s largest meat processing company — has opened a vegan food technology hub in Brazil to create plant-based proteins.

The Incredible Lab has been set up as JBS strives to become the market leader of vegan proteins. To assist in this mission, the lab — which is managed by JBS’s Seara Alimentos division — will bring together experts in food, science, technology, and consumer trends.

The Incredible Lab has already succeeded in creating “Biomolecule i” — a new technology that uses natural elements to allegedly better replicate the taste and texture of animal meat.

“The world is constantly changing. Today there is a new way for everything and with food it’s no different” said Joanita Karoleski, president of Seara Alimentos.

“The search for vegetable proteins is a reality and we want to be leaders in this segment.”

In 2019, Seara Alimentos made its first product for the plant-based meat market — the Incredible Burger — from a combination of soy, beets, wheat, onion, and garlic.

Launching the burger, the company stated it “understood that it was necessary to provide options for those who did not want to eat a burger of animal origin.”

Adding that it had spent “two years researching and developing…to be sure that the quality will amaze the vegan and vegetarian consumers with the unmistakable flavor and texture of real meat.”
