Lewis Hamilton Faces Vegan Backlash From Rival Drivers
A number of Formula 1 racers have spoken out against Lewis Hamilton’s pro-vegan messages.
The World Champion racer has been branded hypocritical for talking about saving the planet whilst also participating in sports car racing.
“Everyone tries to do their thing to help,” said Kimi Raikkonen, a racing driver from Finland, “But I guess as Formula 1 drivers, our starting point is not the best. I mean, we’re here, burning fuel – and why? To decide who is first, second and third.”
Former World Champion Fernando Alonso has said that F1 drivers take the equivalent of “200 planes a year” when it comes to their carbon emissions.

Lewis Hamilton: Go Vegan To Save The Planet
Hamilton has previously said that veganism is the “only way to truly save our planet” and has shared that he plans to become carbon neutral by the end of the year. He has encouraged fans to turn away from animal products, both for their own health and the health of the planet.
Max Verstappen, the youngest ever driver to compete in Formula 1, argued “I saw a documentary about athletes benefitting from that diet, but I think that’s not too relevant for F1. We are not cyclists or marathon runners.”
“I like to burn fuel. Can I say that? I don’t like electric motors. Caring for the environment is very important, but Formula 1 has existed for many years and it should continue…If you don’t like it, don’t watch it” Max added.
