Once in a lifetime session – A new Netflix documentary featuring Moby.

Through performances and interviews, the musician opens up about his unusual childhood, his heroes and the stories behind his songs.

He may have put the decks away, but he’s still in the spotlight. The legendary electronic music icon, and vegan activist, is the star of a new Netflix documentary. The ninety-minute video diary, “Once in a Lifetime Sessions With Moby,” chronicles the man behind the music, his childhood, and his decision to go vegan at 19.

The musician is a devoted animal activist and says in a TEDx talk titled “Why I’m Vegan,” that it’s “the most important part of his life”. He has been vegan for over 30 years, before it was the thing to do.

In the documentary, He describes the day he realized all animals are equal, with the help of his cat Tucker. “All of a sudden the switch got thrown in my brain,” he Moby said. “And I realized every animal with two eyes and a central nervous system has a rich emotional life and a deep desire to avoid pain and suffering.” This realization led to him becoming vegetarian and then vegan two years after that.

Moby is well known for his animal activism, he recently sold all of his musical instruments and record collection to benefit the vegan medical group Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. The profits of Little Pine, his Los Angeles based restaurant also go straight to animal-rights organizations. “Animal-rights activism, or activism in general, is my job,” said Moby. “I decided a few years ago I love making music—I spend a lot of time working on music—but it’s not my job. It’s my amazing hobby. Every day, I think of how I can advance the cause of animal rights.”

“Once in a Lifetime Sessions With Moby” is available now to stream on Netflix.
