Vegan Activist Greta Thunberg Travels By Yacht To Limit Emissions
Famed 16-year-old vegan and climate change activist Greta Thunberg is set to arrive to New York tomorrow by yacht, a travel choice made to reduce the trip’s emissions.
Her two-week cross-Atlantic trip to New York’s UN Climate Action Summit will reportedly be entirely carbon neutral. The yacht, run by Pierre Casiraghi and Boris Herrmann, is equipped with solar panels and hydro-generators to provide electricity for the journey.
Thunberg has kept her community updated via twitter, including in this video where she describes the weather conditions she’s been faced with.
Thunberg is the founder of the Fridays for Future movement, in which school-aged children fight for climate justice by skipping class to protest. She is also a committed vegan and has pled with her followers to give up animal products in order to mitigate climate change.
She has now spoken at a number of climate-focused events, including the UN Climate Action Summit last December, where she was famously direct in her message.
“You only talk about moving forward with the same bad ideas that got us into this mess,” she said.
“Even when the only sensible thing to do is pull the emergency brake.”
How can we put the brakes on climate change? Let us know in the comments below.
