UK Vegan Takeaway Industry Grows By 388%

According to new research, vegan takeaway meals in the UK have increased in popularity by 388 percent in the last two years.

The study, conducted by The British Takeaway Campaign, found also that the average household in the UK spends about £38 on take out food per month and that takeaway food service sector in the UK contributed about £4.6 billion to the overall GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of the UK.

The increase is reportedly due not only to the rising popularity of veganism in the UK — with the total number of vegans now estimated at 600,000 — but to growing numbers of flexitarians, or people who aim to reduce their animal product consumption without eliminating it completely.

Vegetarian take out meals have seen a similar rise in popularity at around 137 percent.
