Aldi Debuts Meat-Like Vegan Burger In Germany

by | July 30, 2019

A made-to-seem-real plant-based burger is set to hit shelves at Aldi Sür in Germany next month.

Dubbed the Wonder Burger, the new patty is made with soy protein, coconut oil, cornstarch, and beet extract which — much like it does in the Beyond Burger — gives the patty its pinkish colour and makes it appear to “bleed.”

The Wonder Burger will be part of the brand’s Mein Veggie Tag labeling system, which helps customers differentiate between vegan and nonvegan products.

Growing Selection

This is not Aldi’s first foray into vegan business. Though products vary by location, the chain appears committed to stocking vegan products.

Aldi already offers a line of vegetarian and vegan products under the brand name Earth Grown. While it includes everything from plant-based meatballs to non-dairy ice cream, vegan and plant-based consumers should be sure to check the ingredients list for dairy or eggs.
