Miscarriages are indeed hard physically, as well as emotionally. And it could be even more difficult when you’re away from your near and dear ones. Doesn’t matter if you’re a housewife, working woman, or even a powerful politician, it is equally difficult for all.

Australia’s Minister of Industrial Relations, Kelly O’Dwyer recently suffered from a miscarriage and it has hit her hard emotionally. According to media reports, Mrs. O’Dwyer made the shocking decision of quitting politics after suffering from miscarriage in the Parliament House, away from the support of her family and loved ones. She will continue her current term but won’t re-contest for the seat.

In an exclusive interview with News Corp, the heartbroken Australian minister said she never wants to go through this experience again. Mother of a 3-year-old girl and 20 month old boy, Mrs. O’Dwyer had conceived the third time with the help of IVF treatment.

The Industrial Relations Minister has been quoted as saying,

“I cannot commit to another three years and continue to deliver the quality of service that my country, my party, and my community are entitled to expect.”

Mrs. O’Dwyer further said that she needs to be very realistic since she will be turning 42 this year and wants everything to go right this time. She stressed that her quitting politics doesn’t mean men or women have to make a choice between family life and public service, but this is a decision she has taken for herself.
