Black-Owned Vegan Bakery Has “Jaw-Dropping Influx Of Orders”

A vegan bakery in Texas has experienced a huge sales increase following a surge in support for Black-owned businesses.

Southern Roots in San Antonio — which is run by husband and wife team Cara and Marcus Pitts — has reported a “jaw-dropping influx of orders.”

After being included in lists of Black-owned businesses to support amid the Black Lives Matter movement, Southern Roots shared that thousands of orders came “flying in.”

“A Blessing”

“We were denied benefits as a small business, so all of the recent attention has been a blessing in disguise,” said Marcus.

“As a black-owned business, our focus is on perseverance and consistency. We have to keep going no matter what because life comes at you fast.”

Southern Roots Vegan Bakery

Cara and Marcus opened the online bakery in 2018 — shortly after they were both inspired to go vegan by plant-based documentary What the Health.

The couple now bake a wide range of treats for their customers, including cookies, donuts, and brownies, with nationwide shipping across the US.
