Dealing With Hemorrhoids During Pregnancy But Not Constipated? Here’s Some Help
Fortunately, most cases of hemorrhoids can be treated safely with some natural home remedies.
What are hemorrhoids?
Hemorrhoids are varicose veins in your butt. They are swollen or inflamed veins inside the rectum and around the anus. There are two kinds of hemorrhoids, internal and external.
Internal hemorrhoids are, you guessed it, inside the rectum and usually cause more pressure than pain. However, if an internal hemorrhoid prolapses it can be excruciating.
External hemorrhoids are small itchy lumps outside of the rectum which can be painful.
Symptoms of hemorrhoids include rectal bleeding, itching, burning and pain or pressure, bulges on the anus and blood on toilet paper after you go to the bathroom.
Why do women get hemorrhoids during pregnancy?
Increase in blood volume during pregnancy can put pressure on the veins running through the anus, causing hem to swell.
Constipation, which can be caused by pregnancy hormones slowing down the bowels, is also a cause of hemorrhoids.
Prenatal vitamins that contain synthetic iron may also cause hemorrhoids. Synthetic iron can cause constipation.
Natural remedies to help soothe hemorrhoids during pregnancy
If you are suffering from hemorrhoids during pregnancy but not constipated, some of the natural remedies described below can help you get instant relief from the discomfort.
Apple Cider Vinegar Sitz bath. Add a half cup of raw ACV to a sitz bath and soak.
Coconut oil applied to hemorrhoids can help soothe itching and can relieve inflammation.
Witch hazel compress. Soak a pad in organic witch hazel, put it in the freezer to get nice and cold, and apply to hemorrhoids. These are nice and soothing on the inflamed area.
