Do You Need Meat When Pregnant?

What About The Baby?
Everyone LOVES a pregnancy, whether you’re vegan or not. People love asking about how you’re feeling, what cravings you’re having, whether you know the sex, whether you THINK you know the sex, are you feeling any movement yet?
When you’re vegan, you get all these questions plus more. People want to know what nutrients the baby is getting. Have you stayed vegan while you’ve been pregnant?
Have you been craving meat? Is it safe to be vegan while pregnant? EVERYONE has seen that episode of Friends where Phoebe eats meat throughout her pregnancy because she feels like she has to and wants to know if this has happened to you too.
The great news is, that there is absolutely no need to change a healthy vegan diet when you fall pregnant. There’s actually a huge range of health benefits to being vegan while pregnant.
Many women report falling pregnant quickly and easily while on a vegan diet (myself included). There are also plenty of women out there who have had both vegan and non-vegan pregnancies and say that the morning sickness and other pregnancy symptoms were less severe with their vegan pregnancy.
Your doctor will do a set of blood when you first see them to confirm your pregnancy, and as long as you continue to eat a healthy diet, drink plenty of water, and take a vegan prenatal throughout your pregnancy there’s no reason why you can’t stay vegan.
The other bonus to being vegan through pregnancy is that you don’t have to think about what you’re ‘not allowed’ to eat during pregnancy raw fish, soft cheese, soft serve ice cream, and the mercury in fish are all off the menu anyway.. the one thing you may also look forward to when bubs arrives is a nice big glass of red wine!
