Hair Loss After Pregnancy- What You Need to Know
Hair loss can be a stressful situation for men and women alike. Typically, it can be caused by factors such as stress, genetics, and iron deficiency (which is already an area of concern for vegans and pregnant women alike). For women who have just given birth, it is a common symptom faced. Not only is it a burden to clean out of the shower drain, but it can also be a big hit to your confidence. Going through it? Worried you might? No problem. Here is everything that you need to know about hair-loss after pregnancy.
What Causes Hair Loss After Pregnancy?
You may be thinking that all of the stress from having a baby, getting into a routine, and being the team captain of ‘Club No Sleep’ attributes to your thinner strands. Although these can definitely be factors, they are not the main cause. During the months following pregnancy, the loss is due to the hormonal imbalances faced while pregnant. While pregnant, hair switches to being in “resting phase” nearly all at once and after delivery, it is ready to fall out and regrow.
So, Is It Normal?
Yes! Somewhere between 40-50% of women experience this type of hair loss post delivery. If it continues to fall out for a long period of time or as an unusual amount, consult with your doctor to check for any vitamin deficiencies or larger, underlying problems.
How Can I Prevent It?
Although “preventing” loss isn’t technically possible, there are ways that you can minimize the amount of hair you are losing and strengthen in growing hair. Be sure that you are up to date on taking doctor-approved vitamins. Biotin is great for not only your hair
