IKEA To Launch Vegan Meatballs That “Look And Taste” Like Meat
Furniture giant IKEA is set to launch a vegan version of its popular meatballs.
Although IKEA already has vegan meatballs on sale, the new dish has the “look and taste” of animal meat.
From August 3, UK customers can enjoy the meatballs in IKEA bistros, priced at £1.50 for eight balls. Bags of the new product can also be purchased from the food market, priced at £2.75 for 500g. The meal will be on sale in IKEA restaurants from October 26.
“Climate Friendly, Delicious Food”
“At IKEA, we are committed to having a positive impact on people and the planet,” said Hege Sæbjørnsen, country sustainability manager at IKEA UK and Ireland.
“In order to reduce the climate footprint of the total IKEA business, including our food business, and make climate friendly, delicious food available for everyone, we are making sure meat alternatives are an easy, desirable and affordable choice.”
“With the new plant ball we can now offer meat lovers a great tasting, more sustainable alternative – without compromising on the IKEA meatball experience that is loved by so many.”

IKEA Vegan Meatballs
The new vegan meatballs are made using a combination of yellow pea protein, with potatoes, oats, apple, and onion.
Although the meatballs are totally plant-based, they are served with mashed potato in the bistros, which contains dairy. Opting for a side of fries instead will create a totally vegan meal.
When compared to the meat alternative, the plant-based version has just four percent of the carbon footprint — making it a much more sustainable option.
