“At Azuñia Tequila, we’re proud to produce USDA-Organic products without chemicals or additives and have a deep heritage of sustainable farming. We honor that heritage by doing our best to connect our values to yours. In keeping with our commitment to our artisan and honest process, we’re leading this initiative, with the hope of reducing millions of plastic straws that are thrown away across the U.S. every day by encouraging people to choose to make a small change”, says Jenn Barber, a representative from Azuñia Tequila.

The campaign began when an organic tequila brand called Azuñia Tequila began frequenting bars and restaurants, many of them focusing on sustainability, Azuñia couldn’t help but notice how many times they were given a straw in their cocktail. There were talks taking place in California at the same time, about regulating plastic straws, and of course, the viral video of the turtle with a straw stuck in her nose.
Azuñia chose stainless steel straws because they are reusable, recyclable and easily washed in commercial dishwashers found in bars and restaurants.

On their website the company says, “at Azuñia, because we’re organic, sustainably farmed, single estate crafted tequila, we felt that it was almost our duty to help our partners in the hospitality industry find a better way to reduce plastic waste in landfills. Also, given that our company’s founders live in San Diego and our main office is in Glendora, CA, we had to do something to help save the ocean, since it’s right in our backyard.”
I know you’re all going to sign up to take this worthy challenge, so here’s a recipe for a delicious skinny margarita. You’re welcome!
