Join The No Plastic Straws 365 Challange.

by | October 12, 2018

Are you as concerned as I am about the disgusting state of our oceans and the devastating health impacts on marine wildlife caused by plastic straws?

U.S. consumers use on average 500,000,000 plastic straws daily. Currently, an estimated 100,000 marine animals die from plastic debris each year. The amount of plastic in the oceans can cover almost 500 million square miles and is growing every day. There have been a few measures put in place recently to help reduce the amount of waste caused by single-use plastics, such as California implementing a partial ban on plastic straws, Buckingham Palace in London will be going plastic straw free in 2019, United Airlines will be using bamboo straws starting in November.

Azuñia Tequila has joined the movement by implementing the No Plastic Straws 365 campaign. #noplasticstraws365

Join Azuñia Tequila, other leading beverage brands, bartenders, and friends and be a part of a small change that can lead to extraordinary results.

Will you accept the challenge, and say “no plastic straws” every day for the next year to act against plastic pollution, one straw at a time?

Together we can make a difference.

“At Azuñia Tequila, we’re proud to produce USDA-Organic products without chemicals or additives and have a deep heritage of sustainable farming.  We honor that heritage by doing our best to connect our values to yours. In keeping with our commitment to our artisan and honest process, we’re leading this initiative, with the hope of reducing millions of plastic straws that are thrown away across the U.S. every day by encouraging people to choose to make a small change”, says Jenn Barber, a representative from Azuñia Tequila.

The campaign began when an organic tequila brand called Azuñia Tequila began frequenting bars and restaurants, many of them focusing on sustainability,  Azuñia couldn’t help but notice how many times they were given a straw in their cocktail. There were talks taking place in California at the same time, about regulating plastic straws, and of course, the viral video of the turtle with a straw stuck in her nose.

Azuñia chose stainless steel straws because they are reusable, recyclable and easily washed in commercial dishwashers found in bars and restaurants.

On their website the company says, “at Azuñia, because we’re organic, sustainably farmed, single estate crafted tequila, we felt that it was almost our duty to help our partners in the hospitality industry find a better way to reduce plastic waste in landfills. Also, given that our company’s founders live in San Diego and our main office is in Glendora, CA, we had to do something to help save the ocean, since it’s right in our backyard.”

I know you’re all going to sign up to take this worthy challenge, so here’s a recipe for a delicious skinny margarita. You’re welcome!
