Kevin Smith Takes Heat For Talking Vegan On Social Media

by | September 17, 2019

Kevin Smith has said that he’s often hit with backlash on social media when he talks about his vegan lifestyle.

The filmmaker, comedian, and actor breached the subject during an interview with Variety at the Mercy For Animals 20th Gala last week.

“Whenever I post something about being vegan, they get pretty upset and say ‘I’m going to eat four times as much meat’ and I’m like, ‘See you in hell,’” he said.

Smith has many times over credited veganism for saving his life since a severe heart attack landed him in hospital early last year. Now, he says both the lifestyle and his daughter Harley Quinn Smith have been instrumental in improving his health, and changing his perspective.

The star maintains that he doesn’t intend to push his lifestyle on his fans, but simply to share something important to him.

“I’m not saying you need to do this,” he said.

“I’m just responding to questions about why I look the way I look suddenly, so you have to be very careful about how you couch it because some people feel like I’ve had so much taken away, now you are going to take away my meat. Do what you want. I took away my meat to save my life.”
