Novak Djokovic Tests Positive For COVID-19 After Tennis Tournament
Three other tennis players who also participated in the event — Grigor Dimitrov, Borna Coric and Viktor Troicki — have also tested positive for the virus.
The Adria Tour competition was scheduled to run from June 12 to July 5, but remaining events have since been cancelled due to the outbreak.
“Stabilise The Epidemiological Situation”
“Unfortunately, due to all the events that happened in the last few days, we have decided that the most important thing right now is to stabilise the epidemiological situation,” said Djordje Djokovic, a director of the tournament.
The first leg of the competition drew crowds of 4,000 fans, with large numbers pictured dancing alongside tennis players at a nightclub.
Djokovic’s wife Jelena has also tested positive for the virus, although their two children are reported to have tested negative.

Plant-Based Novak Djokovic
The plant-based tennis star released a statement to apologise for his decision to participate in the event.
“Everything we did in the past month, we did with a pure heart and sincere intentions,” Djokovic wrote.
“I Am Extremely Sorry”
“Our tournament was meant to unite and share a message of solidarity and compassion throughout the region.”
“It was born with a philanthropic idea, to direct all raised funds towards people in need and it warmed my heart to see how everybody strongly responded.”
“We organised the tournament when the virus had weakened, believing the conditions for hosting the Tour had been met. Unfortunately, this virus is still present, and it is a new reality we are learning to cope and live with. I am hoping things will ease with time so we can all resume lives the way they were.”
“I am extremely sorry for each individual case of infection. I hope it will not complicate anyone’s health situation and everyone will be fine.”
