Parents Furious As Nursery Switches To Vegan Menu
A UK nursery group has upset parents after introducing a vegan menu for the 260 children it cares for.
As of next year, Jigsaw Day Nurseries in Chester will no longer dish up any animal products. It will be one of the first private childcare providers in the UK to exclusively offer vegan meals.
The new menu will include a range of plant-based options, such as vegetable curry and Hungarian goulash.
A nutritionist was consulted as part of the transition to create a “highly nutritious, varied and sustainable menu which meets all of the relevant guidelines for early years nutrition.”
Several parents have raised concerns, with some suggesting that the animal-friendly change is discriminatory of their meat-eating children.
“My son has a big appetite,” shared one anonymous parent, “I think he’ll come home starving. To go veggie is one thing, but to go full-on vegan is just madness.”

Vegan For The Planet
Claire Taylor, founder of Jigsaw Day Nurseries, has explained that the decision was “made with the children and the planet’s future in mind.”
“We appreciate that this is a decision that comes with a business risk associated” Taylor said, “however, we feel passionately that a sustainable path is the one we wish to follow for the benefit of our children’s future.”
Defending her decision to change the menu, Taylor pointed to research that shows how animal agriculture is fuelling the climate crisis.
Speaking out against the negativity, one parent said “It’s like saying you don’t want your children to be educated in what will save our planet.”
