by | October 30, 2018

Social entrepreneur and plant-based nutritionist Candy Marx is set to release a new vegan pregnancy book after signing a deal with a US publisher.

Candy Marx, the ex-fashion footwear designer and founder of KeilanaSkye Footwear, is set to release her vegan pregnancy book titled Plantfed Mama: A Holistic Guide to a Vegan Pregnancy in early 2019. Marx left the fashion industry behind to study nutrition and master herbalism, and admits to changing her career path after making the switch to veganism and experiencing the benefits of a plant-based lifestyle first hand.

Her new career path sees her focusing on social entrepreneurship, animal welfare causes, conservation, humanitarianism, along with health and well-being.

When Marx discovered she was pregnant, she noticed that there was a lack of good information about plant-based pregnancies. Speaking in the press release for her new vegan pregnancy book, she said: “As a mother, I noticed that there wasn’t enough information about plant-based pregnancies, from a nutritional and holistic side, and that’s why I wrote the book.  I’ve written from experience too.”

“I’ve spoken to a lot of women who’ve been shamed into thinking that being vegan during pregnancy is selfish – but a whole foods plant-based diet is anything but. I’ve seen women become empowered just by understanding the nutritional side during their vegan pregnancies, which has been fantastic to witness. It’s been wonderful connecting with so many like-minded mamas too.”

The growth of veganism in recent times has sparked a huge online community of vegan parents, and parents-to-be all sharing their knowledge with one another. There is also an increase in the number of health professionals and dietitians who recommend a vegan diet for all stages of life, including pregnancy, to help combat a range of health-related issues.
