A balanced plant-based diet based is enough to guarantee all the minerals, vitamins, fats, and essential amino acids we need. With the exception of vitamin B12, which must be supplemented, there is no doubt that vegan food is totally healthy and possibly even healthier than conventional food. Despite this, many pregnant vegans are left with doubts and fears for their babies, especially when doctors start to frighten patients about the importance of meats in the baby’s development.

Pregnant Vegans: Two Hollywood Actresses and Their Experience
The idea that totally pregnant vegans can’t be healthy, and their diet must be modified, is no more than a myth. For starters, here’s two examples of vegan actresses who had 100% vegan pregnancies and raised their children vegan from birth.

Defending her diet to the critical media, “Bones” actress Emily Deschanel was one of the most outspoken pregnant vegans. Deschanel has been vegan for over 20 years, and she didn’t give up her veganism during pregnancy. For her, her way of eating did not change much and was not at all difficult, as most people may think. She only cared more about the nutrients in her diet and increased her B12 and omega-3 supplementation (chia and flaxseed are a good source!)

The “Clueless” actress has been vegan for 16 years, and has been raising her son Bear within the principles of veganism. Today, her son is seven years old and she says that everything is very natural and she did not have any difficulty during the pregnancy or birth. According to her, everything is much healthier and fun with veganism.
It is very important that you consult with a dietitian who specializes in vegetarian diets during your pregnancy to make sure you are getting everything you need.
