Top Coffee Chain Becomes First To Launch In-Store Vegan Bakery

by | July 20, 2020

Popular coffee chain Pret A Manger has become the first UK high street brand to offer an in-store vegan bakery counter.

From today, the international chain will open “Veggie Pret’s Vegan Bakery” counters at all Veggie Pret stores — featuring a range of croissants, muffins, brownies, and cookies.

“Big Hits With Customers”

“We’re really proud to be the first high street food-to-go retailer to launch a unique concept like this,” said Clare Clough, UK MD of Pret.

“Expanding Veggie Pret’s offering for our vegan customers has been a huge focus of our food development over the last year and moving to an entire vegan bakery is very much the result of that,” she added.

“Our previous vegan bakery products, like the Dark Chocolate & Almond Butter Cookie and The Very Berry Croissant have always been big hits with customers – vegan and non-vegan alike.”

The company opened its first Veggie Pret store back in 2016, and has since launched six more locations across the UK, with seven more expected to open later this year.

In addition to the launch of the bakery counters, the coffee chain is giving the Veggie Pret menu a plant-based update, with eight new vegan treats.

New items on the menu include the Marvellous Muffins, which come in three flavors — Raspberry and Coconut, Choca Mocha, and Banana and Walnut, as well as a fresh selection of brownies and croissants.

“In the first few weeks of the Very Berry Croissant being on sale, it sold more than double the amount per day of the non-vegan jam croissant it replaced,” revealed Clough, “so we can’t wait to hear what our customers think of these new treats.”
