My Fitness Pal (free or paid)

I’ve used this app for years (the free version but I’m considering purchasing the subscription). This app is an easy way to keep track of everything health related including exercise, food consumption, and water intake. With features such as bar code scanning and macro tracking, this app can effortlessly help you keep track of your fitness progress no matter how busy you get.

Forks Over Knives Recipes ($4.99)

Forks Over Knives is a revolutionary ‘for the health’ vegan film. Luckily for us, they have an app showcasing over 400 healthy, plant-based recipes. This user-friendly gem is perfect for those following (or trying to follow) a whole food diet. Their mouth-watering recipe photos will make you eager to try every recipe offered. This is one of the smartphone apps for vegans that make the lifestyle so easy.

Is It Vegan? (free)

This app features a neat barcode scanner which will quickly let you know whether an item is vegan or not. The app will rate the ‘vegan-ess’ of the item and will show you which ingredients are and are not vegan. This is a great tool to use while shopping as it takes away all of the stress from reading tiny ingredient labels as you try to pry your five year-old away from the Oreo display. Happy Cow ($3.99)

Are you on vacation and have just come to realize that you forgot to do your research on vegan-friendly eateries? Have no fear because, with Happy Cow, you can search for restaurants near you no matter what country you are in. One of my favorite smartphone apps for vegans who travel, his app allows you to filter between vegan, vegetarian, and veg-friendly options to make your vacation run as smooth as possible.

Tasty (free)

Last but not least on our list of smartphone apps for vegans, Buzzfeed’s Tasty App (available on both iTunes and Google Play) lets you search through a colorful and diverse array of recipes for any of your family’s wants. Just by searching the keyword ‘vegan’, you will have access to everything from simple stir-fries to decadent desserts.  The app also allows you to hide all meat-dishes to keep the homepage of the app herbivore-friendly.
