Vegan Actress Alicia Silverstone Shares Tips On Sustainable Living

by | September 11, 2019

Vegan celebrity Alicia Silverstone took to Instagram yesterday to share tips on living more sustainably.

The post, which features a picture of Silverstone as Cher from hit movie Clueless, has earned over 100,000 likes.

“Rampant fires in the Amazon, species disappearing before our eyes, glaciers melting, polluted waters and plastic-filled oceans,” she writes.

“As if! How can you do your part to turn this thing around?”

Silverstone suggests that those concerned avoid single-use plastics by arming themselves with reusable products such as straws, water bottles, containers and bags.

She also promotes going vegan, or reducing meat intake through the popular meat-reduction approach dubbed Meatless Monday. Silverstone shares details on the effects of animal agriculture on climate change and the planet, such as deforestation and ocean dead zones. She also suggests watching Cowspiracy, a popular vegan documentary.

The star also tackles problems inherent with the fashion industry, which she calls “super wasteful and highly pollutive.” She suggests thrift shopping for or buying from sustainable and eco-minded brands.

Alicia Silverstone‘s Vegan Activism

This is not the first time the actor has been an advocate for veganism or sustainability.

She has written two books about the vegan lifestyle — The Kind Diet and The Kind Mama — and recently made headlines for attributing her son’s good behaviour to veganism.

Silverstone has also worked with PETA on multiple occasions, including loaning her voice PETA’s Carly the Cow, an animatronic education tool designed to teach children about the dairy industry.
