Vegan Caramel Apple Pie Donuts Recipe

Halloween is just around the corner and we couldn’t be more excited, especially with these vegan caramel apple pie donuts!

As a kid, since we were still in school and didn’t have a fall break, going to fall festivals was something to definitely look forward to. Bobbing for apples, pumpkin picking, and Halloween costume contests made this a special holiday. But the one nostalgic treat that pops into my head is a caramel apple on a stick.

The apple was always crisp and the caramel was the kind of chewy that stuck to your teeth. These donuts are a great remake of the flavors that I remember so vividly. If you want a sweet donut that is light, fluffy, and easy to make this a great recipe to keep for the fall season. They are the perfect combination of sugar and spice and everything nice.

Vegan Caramel Apple Pie Donuts

For the vegan donuts

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unbleached all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup plant based milk
  • 1 tsp white distilled vinegar
  • 2 tbsp. coconut oil, melted
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce 
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a donut pan and set aside.
  2. In a mixing bowl; sift flour, baking powder, and salt together.
  3. Whisk together milk, vinegar, coconut oil, applesauce, and brown sugar. Stir until well combined.
  4.  Pour into the flour mixture and stir until it forms a dough. Do not over mix.
  5. Add 3 tbsp of the mixture to each donut mold. With your finger or a spoon evenly distribute dough to make it even and smooth. 
  6. Bake your vegan caramel apple donuts 10-12 minutes. Let cool while you make the glaze.

For the caramel glaze

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup vegan butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

Directions:

  1. In a small saucepan melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in brown sugar and let simmer until bubbles form.
  2. Remove from heat. Allow to cool and thicken (about 5 minutes).
  3. Dip top of your vegan caramel apple donuts into the caramel glaze or pour over donuts.
  4. Enjoy!
