Vegan Powerlifter Breaks Weightlifting Record
Vegan weightlifter Nick Squires has smashed the existing record in California for the deadlift exercise.
Squires competed in the open age category at the California State Championships in Chino Hills last week — organized by the United States Powerlifting Association.
The vegan athlete deadlifted 650.36lb to beat the previous record of 633.82lb.

Vegan Athlete
Squires has followed a vegan diet since 2014 — one year after he started training as a powerlifter.
“I think my favourite achievements in powerlifting have been my two “First Overall” awards,” said Squires.
“Strong For A Vegan”
“I have often worried about being stuck in this category of ‘strong for a vegan’ so taking home the award of being the strongest person at the entire meet was really meaningful to me.”
