Wetherspoons ‘Accidentally’ Serves Meat In Vegan-Friendly Meal

Chloe Sparks, from Cambridge, England, was dining with a friend at the popular chain restaurant when she noticed something wasn’t right with her vegan-friendly meal.

The vegan woman has spoken out about her horror as she realized the had been served meat instead of the plant-based meal she had originally ordered and was given beef in her five-bean chili. After taking a mouthful of the dish she quickly realized that something wasn’t right.

Chloe spoke to Cambridge Livesaying that she was ‘shook up’ by the ordeal and ran to the bathroom to make herself throw up after not being served the vegan-friendly meal she had ordered.

She said: “When it arrived I naturally assumed it was what I had ordered but after one mouthful I knew it contained meat. I asked to speak to the manager but he didn’t believe what I was saying, he kept telling me it was the five-bean chili.”

“Eventually he took it into the kitchen and I was offered a refund for the meal.”

Chloe discussed what happened with her friend and decided to speak to a different manager at the restaurant, who apologetically offered her a £20 ($26) gift card for mistakenly giving her meat in what was supposed to be a vegan-friendly meal.

She continued to say “I appreciated the gift card but I wouldn’t go back if I’m honest. My friends and I come in here about once every two months, because it’s cheap and a good night spot, but I thought this was handled badly and it put me off.” Not that I blame her, if I had been put in the same situation I would have been horrified to discover meat in my ‘vegan-friendly’ meal.

Chloe is determined not to let this mishap stand in the way of her vegan journey though, stating; “I’m definitely not going to let this perturb me, I stand by my decision to go vegan. It’s good foe me, it’s better for animals, and it’s great for the environment.”

A spokesperson for Wetherspoons spoke about the incident saying; “While we make every effort to deliver all orders correctly, on occasion mistakes can occur and when they do, we apologize and do our utmost to put them right. We are sorry that this happened as we specifically cater for vegans and vegetarians with highlighted menu options.”

“The customer has accepted a gift card after she brought this incident to our attention.”
