Delta Plans To Become Carbon Neutral In Airline First
Major airline Delta has revealed plans to become carbon neutral over the next ten years.
The US company has pledged to spend $1 billion across the next decade to progressively reduce its impact on the planet.
In order to reach its carbon goals, Delta will increase the efficiency of its jets and decrease the amount of fuel it uses. The airline will also be investing in carbon removal programs, and undertaking additional environmentally friendly initiatives,
“Digging Deep Into The Issues”
“There’s no challenge we face that is in greater need of innovation than environmental sustainability, and we know there is no single solution,” said Ed Bastian, Delta’s Chief Executive.
“We are digging deep into the issues, examining every corner of our business, engaging experts, building coalitions, fostering partnerships and driving innovation.”

Delta: Carbon Neutral
In 2019, Delta replaced 84 of its planes with models that are more fuel efficient. The company also reduced the amount of single-use plastics it uses and started to move towards more sustainable fuel options.
The airline invites customers to check the carbon emissions of the flights they have booked, and provides them with opportunities to combat these emissions by supporting eco-friendly projects.
“Credible And Real”
“It will be critical that the offsets they purchase are credible and real,” said Peter Miller, a carbon expert from the Natural Resources Defense Council.
“That is certainly possible. It’s a whole lot better than doing nothing.”
