by | February 1, 2019

Cold and flu season is in full swing, and in my house, so is strep throat. Most of the natural remedies I found for sore throats included honey. Thankfully there are a few ways to soothe a sore throat without using honey. Here are some vegan-friendly home remedies for a sore throat.

Hot tea

A nice warm cup of tea is one of the best temporary home remedies for a sore throat. Ginger tea with lemon and maple syrup is a wonderfully soothing combination. The ginger relieves the pain, the lemon gives you vitamin C, and the maple syrup coats your throat.

Using a humidifier in your home adds moisture to the air. This will help to moisturize your throat. Humidifiers do need to be cleaned regularly.

Essential oils

Diffusing eucalyptus, peppermint, thieves oil, or lemon seem to help soothe a sore throat, although I’m not sure if it’s from the oils themselves or the moisture it puts in the air. Either way, it smells good. Just add water and a few drops of the essential oil of your choice to a diffuser and switch it on.

Neti pot

Post nasal drip can often be the cause of a sore throat. A neti pot can help flush out the sinuses in order to give some relief.
