Encouraging Healthy Eating Habits In Children
Healthy eating habits are set in early childhood.
Choosing a vegan diet саn gіvе your сhіld — аnd уоur whole family — the opportunity to learn to enjoy a variety of wonderful, nutritious foods. Offer your child a wide variety of grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and soy products. Keep it simple and make it fun, and they’ll learn good eating habits that will last them a lifetime.
It is your responsibility to guide your children in their healthy eating habits. Children raised on a vegan diet grow up to be healthier, and tend to outlive their meat-eating peers. It is much easier to build a nutritious diet from plants and vegetables than from meat products.
Plant-based products are also free of the fats and cholesterol that meat products contain. They also contain the essential nutrients for growth and development as well as protein, fiber, antioxidant vitamins, minerals, and the healthy fats.
Whole grains, beans, and vegetables contain complex carbohydrates needed to provide the energy need for the busy life of a child. In addition to this, your child will receive the fiber and nutrients provided by whole wheat breads, pasta, corn, and the less common grains such as barley, quinoa, millet, and others. You’ll also be helping them avoid the sugary drinks and treats that are so common today.
Your children do need protein to grow, but not the kind that comes from animal-based products. The grains, beans, vegetables, and fruits that you give them will supply all the protein that they need.
If your children are very young, they will need more healthy fats than their parents or older siblings. You need to be sure that your child’s diet includes soybean products, nut butter, and even avocados.
Also be sure that the diet includes a regular source of B-12. This is needed for healthy nerve function and blood. This important vitamin is abundant in many commercial cereals, rice milks, and nutritional yeast.
Encouraging healthy eating habits in children will ensure that they have a positive relationship with food as they get older, which in turn will help them to pass on these habits to the next generation. We all want our kids to be healthy and happy, and that all starts with what foods we put into our bodies.
