Iconic Australian Bakery Balfours Releases New Range Of Vegan Options

Balfours, touted as South Australia’s oldest bakery has recently launched a new range of vegan options, including roast vegetable pasties. Not only that their iconic pie, but their sausage rolls will also come in a meat-free iteration. Keep reading to know more.

The South Australian Bakery from Adelaide proclaims themselves to be the oldest, having established themselves in the 19th Century. Among their most famous offerings, the traditional Balfours pie and sausage rolls are made from meat. But now, vegans will be able to enjoy them too.

Starting from mid-July, the company’s new plant-based offerings will be available to the customers, news outlet Adelaide Now, reports. The pies will now rock mushroom, kale or leek in a variant, and lip-smacking curried lentil, and creamy potato in the other. As of their sausage rolls, which will now be called a savory roll, will come with rosemary, leek and potato filling. Excited to try their new vegan options?

What is more, a veg pasty reportedly joins the new vegan bandwagon at Balfours. The same will come with eggplant, green calcium, onion sweet potato, and potato. The company on June 26th celebrated their 165th birthday.

Chief marketing officer Erik de Roos said the curried lentil pie is his’ favorite since the pie balances a bit of spice, and great taste adding “the lentils are so good for you.”

“We’re seeing people wanting to experiment with different flavors and tastes. So, from that perspective, there will be a lot of people who love a meat pie who will also try a vegan pie,” Mr. Ross stated.

According to the report, these products will be exclusively available in South Australia first and will be distributed through independent supermarkets and Floodland.
