Impossible Foods To Hit 1.5k US Locations Including Hospitals And Schools
Dishes from meat-alternative giant Impossible Foods are set roll out to 1500 of Sodexo North America‘s university, health and corporate facility locations starting this month.
The launch will include a total of eight new dishes, all of which will be entirely meat free. The menu will feature plant-based sausage gravy and biscuits, sausage muffin sandwiches, and a number of different variations of the Impossible Burger — including Steakhouse, Creole, and Tandoori-style.
For Sodexco — a brand feeding millions each year through sports venues, educational institutions, care facilities, hospitals, and corporate and government offices — plant-based options are a matter of meeting consumer demand.
“Plant-based is a pretty big strategy for us,” said senior director of culinary development, Rob Morasco. “More plant on the plate really is the number one trend we’re seeing.”
The new menu is part of Sodexo’s Love of Food initiative which brought 200 plant-based dishes, developed with the help of the Humane Society of the US, to the company’s cafeterias in 2018.
While Sodexo cafeterias do not have to order the products from the new partnership, Morasco expects that the “vast majority” of locations will.
Impossible Foods Successes
Sodexo announced its news the same day that Burger King launched the Impossible Whopper nationwide. The meat-alternative giant’s products are also available at a number of other US chains including QDOBA, White Castle, and Bareburger.
Senior VP of products and operations, Sheetal Shah, told FOX Business that the burgers are now available in 10000 restaurants, with 7000 more expected to be added this year alone.
The brand has recently been valued at more than two billion dollars.
Vegans should note that, while they are entirely free of animal products, the Impossible Burger and Impossible Foods’ other products, are not generally considered to be vegan, but plant based. This comes as a result of animal testing that occurred in the early stages of development.
