Kathy Freston, a vegan activist, and an author volunteered the petition which easily garnered millions of signs in the petition. Vegan activists although did not mention the type and preference of the veggie burger they’re looking for, nonetheless, the overwhelming demand seems like in sync with Burger King’s recent launch of Impossible Whoopers.

“I’m hoping to bring a positive change to America with a mainstream meatless option at McDonald’s!” wrote Kathy Freston, author of the petition and a vegetarian activist. “Healthy living should be about progress, not perfection, and this is an easy step that McDonald’s could be taking,” she writes in an updated post that she originally wrote in 2010 published on Change.org.

In December last year, McDonald’s introduced a McVegan in its Chicago headquarters, post completing trials in Sweden and Finland. Speaking about Mc Donald’s and its current vegan offering in the UK, the food-chain giant although has a number of vegetarian offering suitable for vegans, the company never claims any of them to be as vegan because of the possibility of cross-contamination.
