North Korean Leader Kim Jong-Un Orders Confiscation Of Pet Dogs
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has ordered the confiscation of all dogs from their human companions in the capital city of Pyongyang.
The authoritarian ruler believes keeping dogs is capitalist “decadence,” and has issued an outright ban on pet dog ownership.
“Forcefully Confiscating Them”
“Ordinary people raise pigs and livestock on their porches, but high-ranking officials and the wealthy own pet dogs, which stoked some resentment,” explained an anonymous source to a South Korean newspaper.
“Authorities have identified households with pet dogs and are forcing them to give them up or forcefully confiscating them and putting them down.”
It has been reported that a number of the confiscated companion dogs have been sent to restaurants for consumption and to zoos.

Kim Jong-Un
Under the rule of Jong-un, North Korea has a questionable track record when it comes to animal welfare.
In 2018, the Mirror reported that children at Pyongyang Central Zoo — which is owned by Jong-Un — were instructed to cheer as a white tiger desperately tried to revive her stillborn baby.
Conditions at the zoo have been called, “scenes of cruelty,” with animals expressing “classic signs of torment.”
One animal expert described the zoo as “one of the worst cases of psychological abuse of animals ever seen.”
