Slutty Vegan Owner Arranges College Scholarships For Rayshard Brooks’ Kids

by | June 24, 2020

Pinky Cole — the owner of Atlanta restaurant chain Slutty Vegan — has organized college scholarships for all four of Rayshard Brooks’ children.

Rayshard Brooks was shot dead by a police officer after falling asleep in a Wendy’s parking lot in Atlanta earlier this month.

Cole arranged the scholarships through her non-profit organization The Pinky Cole Foundation, in partnership with HBCU Clark Atlanta University. The arrangement will mean all four children can attend the university for free if they want to in the future.

“A World-Class Education”

“It was without hesitation that we made the decision to partner with our notable alumna and entrepreneur Pinky Cole to help the family and children of Mr. Rayshard Brooks,” said President of Clark Atlanta University, George French Jr.

“The senseless death of Mr. Brooks will undoubtedly have long-term financial effects on the family and these scholarships will not only provide them with a means to access a world-class education but will help them on their pathway of success.”

The scholarships — which are worth around $600,000 — will cover tuition, accommodation, and food for Brook’s children, who are currently aged one, two, eight, and 13.

The black father-of-four was shot and killed in the Wendy’s parking lot on June 12 by white police officer Garrett Rolfe. Rolfe has since been fired and will stand trial for felony murder.

At his funeral yesterday, Brooks was remembered as a “hard-working father” who was always smiling and dancing.

The killing of Brooks took place just a few weeks after the murder of another black man, George Floyd, by a white police officer in Minnesota.
