Vegan Racer Lewis Hamilton Asks Fans To Speak Up Amid Racism And Unrest
Vegan Formula 1 pro Lewis Hamilton has taken to Instagram to ask fans of all races to speak out against discrimination and injustice.
The post comes in the wake of the deaths of George Floyd and Regis Korchinski-Paquet, both people of color killed during altercations with police officers in May. Floyd was choked to death by an officer who knelt on his neck for nine minutes and is now facing murder charges. The circumstances of Korchinski-Paquet’s death, who died in a fall from a high-rise after a 911-call are still under investigation.
“Please do not sit in silence, no matter the colour of your skin,” Hamilton wrote, amid increasing outrage over the two tragic events.
“It is only when there are riots and screams for justice that the powers that be cave in and do something, but by then it is far too late and not enough has been done.”
Lewis Hamilton “Overcome With Rage”
The star did not mince words with respect to his feelings on recent events.
“I am completely overcome with rage at the sight of such blatant disregard for the lives of our people,” he wrote.
“The injustice that we are seeing our brothers and sisters face all over the world time and time again is disgusting, and MUST stop.”
