World’s First Compostable Pregnancy Test!
American based start-up company Lia, has developed a compostable and flushable pregnancy test made from biodegradable materials, which will be the first of its kind worldwide. The all female company, knew there is a demand for pregnancy tests that don’t end up in the landfills taking thousands of years, to break down. Coming up with a more environmentally friendly alternative to the plastic methods currently on the market. The “modernized” design is made from the same non-woven, natural plant fibers that make up most toilet paper. The testing kit weighs less than six squares of toilet paper. The test is able to repel water long enough for the results to be displayed, then breaking down the fibers enough to be flushed down the toilet.
“We have modernized the pregnancy test, ditching wasteful plastic and unnecessary electronics for a streamlined alternative that is both good for the environment and more discreet for its users,” said Bethany Edwards, co-founder and chief executive officer at Lia. According to , Edwards. They test has a 99% accuracy rate when taking on the day or after your expected period.
“Lia is the only discreet pregnancy test made with zero glass fibers, batteries, plastic or nitrocellulose – elements found in nearly all single-use diagnostics available on the market today,” said co-founder Anna Couturier Simpson.
It’s a welcomed and much needed product, to help combat sustainable practices while growing your family. The new pregnancy test is expected to be available by late 2018.
