Everybody loves cleaning, right? Breathing in all of those nasty chemicals is gross, and can be unsafe for pregnant women. Unfortunately, cleaning our homes is a chore that most of us have to undertake, unless you’re well-off enough to be able to pay someone to do it for you. Something I’ve been pondering lately because I’m always strapped for time, and mostly I just don’t feel like doing it.

Until I win the lottery, I’m going to have to continue to slog it out and do my own cleaning. I don’t like using a lot of chemicals on my body or in my home. Here are a few DIY cleaning products safe for use during pregnancy, that you can make at home. Make sure you label each bottle individually and rinse thoroughly as the solution runs out.

All-Purpose Spray

We all need a good all-purpose spray cleaner. Simply mix 1/4 cup of vinegar, 1 1/2 tablespoons of lemon juice, 2 teaspoons of dish soap and ¾ of a cup of warm water in a spray bottle. Give it a good shake before using.

Lemon & Tea Tree Oil Disinfectant

Tea tree oil is a fungicide and a natural anti-bacterial. Simply combine ½ cup warm water, ½ white vinegar, 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice and about fifteen drops of tea tree oil into a spray bottle. Give a good shake and you’re ready to go. Adding a couple of drops of lemongrass essential oil will give you a nice lemon scent, which I find is excellent if you’re feeling nauseous.

Streak-Free Window Cleaner

For an effective and non-toxic glass cleaner just mix 2 cups of warm water, 1 cup of distilled white vinegar, and ½ a cup rubbing alcohol. Combine all ingredients in a spray bottle and shake well before use.

Bathtub and Grout Cleaner

This one is so easy. Baking soda really is a multi-use product. Sprinkle a wet tub with baking soda, rub it in to make a paste and let sit for 10-20 minutes. Scrub and rinse clean.

Vinegar & Baking Soda Oven Cleaner

Cleaning my oven is probably my least favorite chore, I find that this natural oven cleaner works really well and it smells great. Combine ¼ cup of all-natural liquid soap, ¾ cup of baking soda, 1/8 cup of white vinegar and a few drops of lemon, lavender essential oil into a bowl. Stir the ingredients to create a paste. Smear the paste onto the inside of the oven using a sponge and let it sit for about ten minutes, scrub with a scrubbing brush and then rinse off with a rag and clean water.

Toilet Bowl Cleaner

Again with the baking soda here. Sprinkle some baking soda inside the toilet bowl and pour one cup of white vinegar into the bowl all over the baking soda. Give the bowl a good scrubbing with a toilet brush. Let it sit and work it’s magic for 20 minutes and then flush the toilet to rinse.

Lemon & Olive Oil Furniture Polish

I actually love polishing. It brings me joy to see mu surfaces coming up shiny. For this one simply pour 1 cup of olive oil, ½ a cup of lemon juice, or 20-30 drops of lemon essential oil into a spray bottle. Shake the bottle vigorously and spray onto wood furniture. Wipe off with a soft cloth.

There you have it, happy nesting!
