Joaquin Phoenix Encourages Slaughterhouse Workers To Expose Animal Cruelty

by | July 13, 2020

Actor and animal rights advocate Joaquin Phoenix is encouraging slaughterhouse employees to expose animal cruelty, as well as the mistreatment of workers.

The Animal Legal Defence Fund (ALDF) — an animal law advocacy organization — has created an online portal where workers can report “activities of concern.”

The award-winning actor is working with the ALDF to promote the portal and invite slaughterhouse workers to come forward.

“Identify, Investigate, Document, And Expose”

“Whistleblowers are instrumental in helping animal protection organizations identify, investigate, document, and expose cruelty,” said Phoenix.

“Despite the animal agribusiness industry’s flagrant disregard for worker safety as COVID-19 ravages slaughterhouses, a surge of whistleblowers – under the constant threat of employer retaliation – are coming forward with information about the mass killing of animals and disposal practices that have severe environmental implications.”

Safety For Slaughterhouse Workers

Slaughterhouse conduct and safety has come under fire recently due to the COVID-19 pandemic. High infection rates for the disease have been noted at meat facilities around the world, with a number of slaughterhouses temporarily closing.

The cramped and unhygienic conditions that workers may often be subject to is said to have fuelled the spread of COVID-19.

“Lives At Risk”

“Workers are putting their lives at risk for corporate bottom lines,” said Stephen Wells, ALDF executive director.

“We want them to know they can report illegal or dangerous conditions anonymously and we will take appropriate action.”

“The public has a right to know what is being done – and the dangers associated with the process of mass killing and disposal of hundreds of thousands of animals.”

How about doing something to protect said hundreds of thousands of innocent lives that get raped, abused, exploited and then brutally fucking murdered for someone’s tastebuds and cold fucking feet!?

Go the fuck Vegan! Human animals do not need the decaying, unnaturally processed flesh nor the skin, milk, periods (eggs), fur/leather (skin), vomit (honey) or anything else for that matter from non-human animals!

Name one fucking pandemic caused by plants and fruit…I’ll wait!

I’m sorry but we can’t stand up for workers of slaughter houses, we understand what you are doing and saying, but been fighting for animal welfare and there rights, as a vegetarian and vegan of 43 years, cannot stand any human who does wrong by animals, will tackle and report anyone, as there are lots of cruel, evil and barbaric people out there and have no time for em, ‘ANIMAL LIVES MATTER’

Totally understand where you’re coming from and so great that you’ve been veggie/vegan for so long!

However, I think it’s also important to remember that a very large number of the US slaughterhouse workforce are said to be undocumented migrant workers. These people often don’t have much choice over their employment, and are therefore often exploited by the employer, but of course should still be protected at work.

I think encouraging the workers to stand up to the bosses is a great first step to shutting down the meat plants, as meaningful and permanent change has to start small and grow.
