Pamela Anderson Asks Canadian Prime Minister To Turn Prisons Vegan
Actor and vegan advocate Pamela Anderson has written to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to ask that he implements vegan menus in prisons across the country.
In her letter, Anderson suggests that meat and dairy are replaced with plant-based alternatives for the approximately 40,000 people incarcerated in Canada. Anderson explained that this would not only be good for the health of the prisoners, but could also save millions of dollars.
“Beans, rice, lentils, pasta, and potatoes and other vegetables as well as fruits supply all the nutrients that anyone needs but at a fraction of the cost of meats and cheeses,” wrote Anderson in her letter.
“Other prison systems have seen the benefits of serving inmates meat-free meals. The Maricopa County Jail in Arizona, for example, reported that it reduced costs by $273,000 when it switched to all-vegetarian food for its 8,000 inmates.”
Speaking on the health benefits of the plant-based move, Anderson told the Prime Minister that “Vegan eating has been proved to reduce the risk of suffering from obesity and cancer significantly and can even reverse heart disease and diabetes, so vegan meals would improve inmates’ health and decrease their health-care costs over the long term—a win-win situation.”

Pamela Anderson & Vegan Advocacy
Anderson is no stranger to this kind of political vegan advocacy, and has been working closely with PETA to progress animal rights laws and awareness.
Last month the actor took part in an event with the Green Party, where she gave out free meals to local residents whilst helping them register to vote.
She has also been very vocal about the animal welfare at SeaWorld, and has previously urged SeaWorld to release their captive animals back into the wild.
