Petition For Papa John’s Vegan Cheese Pizza to Be Introduced

by | October 12, 2018

Vegan Food UK and animal rights organization, Animal Aid, have joined forces to call a petition for Papa John’s vegan cheese pizzas to be introduced in store.

Papa John’s is one of the last major pizza chains to introduce a vegan cheese alternative to their menu, despite having ‘vegan-friendly’ sauces and bases, and now Vegan Food UK and Animal Aid have joined forces to put pressure on the chain to do so.

In recent times the interest in plant-based options and veganism has skyrocketed worldwide, and according to a study by The Vegan Society there are currently more than 50,000 vegans in the UK alone. In addition to this huge number of people adopting a plant-based lifestyle, it is thought that there are around 22 million people who are actively reducing their animal product intake.

The petition for Papa John’s vegan cheese pizza‘s could potentially increase their sales a large amount by expanding into the plant-based options.

In the press release, Tod Bradbury, Animal Aid campaign manager said:  ‘Papa John’s is perhaps the only major pizza chain in the UK to not offer a vegan cheese alternative, despite the evident demand for plant-based products. Most other pizza chains have recognized this and have started to offer vegan cheese, and as such we are calling on Papa John’s to not get left behind and follow suit. Pizza without cheese just isn’t the same.’

Co-founder of Vegan Food UK, Liam Day, said: ‘Over the last few years the vegan community in the UK have appreciated Papa John’s for offering decent vegan-friendly pizza bases & sauces, but vegan cheese is also a requirement for any decent pizza. We feel very passionately that all take-away food places should offer appropriate vegan options, the demand is there and it’s growing everyday!’

The majority of large pizza chains in the UK currently offer a plant-based cheese alternative, including Pizza Express, Pizza Hut, Zizzi, and MOD Pizza. Domino’s also recently launched a trial of a fully vegan pizza in more than 40 UK stores.

Hopefully, this petition for Papa John’s vegan cheese to be introduced will make the international chain realize that more and more people are moving away from animal products and want to have more plant-based options.
