Trans Man Gives Birth To Baby, Shares Stories Of Vile Abuse He Received

by | March 13, 2019

Transgender man, who was reportedly told he couldn’t give birth, shares stories of vile abuse he received from strangers during the pregnancy term.

Wyley Simpson has been in the news lately, for being a transgender man who gave birth to a healthy baby boy six months ago. Yet, the happy news didn’t come to him as smoothly as it should have. Post birth, he shared stories of transphobia, hateful messages that he endured during the entire term. They are disturbing. Showing as a society, we are still down in the gutter and have a lot of work to do to accept everyone who doesn’t fit the narrow heterosexual, nuclear middle-class white family of the ’80’s.

Wyley Simpson (28) found out, last year in February that he was pregnant, while he was still under testosterone therapy. The news came as a bit of shock to him and his partner Stephen Gaeth (28), as they had been previously informed Simpson couldn’t fall pregnant. However, the Texas couple carried through the pregnancy enduring judgement and abuse from strangers. Last year in September, Simpson gave birth to a healthy 7lb 5oz baby boy. The couple has been enjoying the parenting bliss and decided to share their story post their son’s six-month birth anniversary.

Wyley Simpson has been quoted as saying,

“It’s not every day that someone sees a pregnant man walking down the road, so we received a fair amount of abuse – I would be told that I’ll never be a man, ‘men don’t carry babies’ and everyone called me ‘it’

Reminiscing the emotional turmoil he endured, Simpson elaborated on how he was already worried with this being his first pregnancy, but along with it came- a lot of burden in form of the stigma of being a pregnant man. Receiving vile and abusive comments from strangers made the pregnancy more emotionally draining.

He gave birth via an emergency c-section because the umbilical cord was wrapped around his son several times, making the delivery very risky.

Talking about the emotionally draining pregnancy, Simpson shared how carrying the baby bump “messed with his head”. In his own words, it was something so feminine that it messed with his head. But in the end, with the arrival of their son Rowan, Simpson wouldn’t want to change a thing about it.

The joy of bringing forth a new life didn’t come to him initially. He felt comfortable only after giving birth to Rowan, when the baby bump disappeared and he could resume his hormone therapy. Presently, the couple is enjoying parenthood, joining the ranks of exhausted parents everywhere around the world, who need a gallon of coffee and online support groups such as Vegan Pregnancy and Parenting to connect with other parents.

Plans for more children are not in the future. As told to the Sun, Simpson’s likelihood of carrying another child is very low. Feeling the baby’s kicks and going through scans were the most cherishable moments for him. According to Daily Mail, Simpson is looking to complete his transition into a male rendering him unable to carry another child.

Nevertheless, the Texas couple is happily raising Rowan enjoying the sweet joys of parenthood.
