It’s almost my favorite day of the month (no, not Valentine’s day) and this year, I have a lot of junk food planned to celebrate it. Despite living in France, I still celebrate a special day in February which is recognized by the U.S. Confectioners Association. Mark your calendars for this February 19, because Chocolate Mint Day 2019 is almost here!

Chocolate and mint is typically a classic holiday combination, but it doesn’t have to be dormant for the other 11 months of the year. If you can’t get your hands on some vegan mint and chip ice cream, after realizing that Peppermint Patties aren’t vegan-friendly, don’t fret because I have two drink recipes that will allow you to celebrate Chocolate Mint Day 2019 dairy and cruelty-free. Make a decadent peppermint hot chocolate for your kid to enjoy with some organic cookies from Trader Joe’s as you sit back and relax with a well-deserved chocolate mint martini.

Peppermint Hot Chocolate

Ingredients:

  • 1 Tablespoon Cocoa powder
  • 1 Cup of Almond Milk
  • ½ Tablespoon Raw Sugar
  • 1 square of dark chocolate
  • 1 tsp peppermint extract
  • vegan whipped cream
  • fresh mint leaves

Instructions:

  1. In a pot, add in the almond milk and on low-medium heat, bring to a simmer.
  2. Slowly add in the sugar and cocoa powder. Stir well until there are no clumps. (Using a whisk may be helpful if you’re making a larger batch)
  3. Melt in a square of vegan dark chocolate to achieve a decadent consistency as well as your peppermint extract.
  4. Serve in your kid’s favorite mug and top with vegan whipped cream and a fresh mint leaf. Enjoy with some crunchy cookies on the side.

Chocolate Peppermint Martini

Ingredients:

  • 2 shots almond milk creamer
  • ½ shot peppermint schnapps
  • vegan chocolate syrup
  • ice
  • vegan whipped cream
  • fresh mint leaf
  • 1 square of dark chocolate

Instructions:

  1. In a cocktail shaker, add in all ingredients and shake well.
  2. Serve in a martini glass and optionally garnish with vegan whipped cream, a square of vegan dark chocolate, and a fresh mint leaf.
