Daring Foods Collaborates With Bakes to Make Vegan Food Accessible at Nearly 9K Locations
The Glasgow-based vegan startup called Daring Foods is pairing with the biggest food service provider of the city- Brakes Scotland. This tie-up will make vegan foods like meat, nuggets, and burgers available at more than 8,900 cafes, pubs, schools, hotels, and restaurants, reports media outlet Scotsman. Daring Foods already has Fairmont St. Andrews hotel and restaurant chain Tony Macaroni as its clients.
The Increasing Popularity of Vegan Food
Consumers are increasingly choosing to eat less meat, as per Brakes’ observations. The wholesaler will become the first to provide Daring’s full range of meat alternatives. The Daring range of products includes fish, chicken, and red meat alternatives made from plant-based ingredients sans genetically modified organisms, hormones, and antibiotics. Also, no dairy, eggs and palm oil are found in their products either.
Regarding their meat alternative products, Daring Foods Founder, Ross Mackay, said even most meat lovers fail to tell the difference in their foods. The response to their offering has been phenomenal. “Plant-based options aren’t just for alternative cafes anymore,” he said. “They are for everyone and this distribution deal proves this. The more people who try our food, the easier it will be to dispel myths and challenge norms. Plant-based eating isn’t going away, and neither are we.”
“This is the largest vegan range we have listed from one supplier,” stated Operations Director for Brakes Scotland, regarding their collaboration with Daring. He added, “…we want to continually offer our customers innovative products that meet current market trends.”
Glasgow is already one of the most vegan-friendly cities in the UK. In 2017, it was held as the no.1 vegan city in the world, by animal rights association PETA.
