Buffy has launched a high-quality comforter featuring vegan-friendly materials, and the company has kept its sustainability-based goals in mind with this new product. Using eucalyptus pulp, this new duvet is entirely plant-based and is designed to prevent your body from overheating while you are sleeping (no more popping feet out to cool). Using plant-based fiber enables the company to reduce its ecological footprint, reports the design and architecture magazine Dezeen.

How is it Done?

Wondering how the company transforms the plant-based raw materials into a duvet? Well, as reported by Dezeen, it starts with sourcing the eucalyptus pulp from Lenzing, Austria, which is then reportedly spun into yarn to make the exterior and threads that will be used in making the final product.

Inside, loose eucalyptus fibers provide a filling for the comforter, making the bedding biodegradable as well. Furthermore, the product is then cut, sewn and assembled in the founder’s family partner mills, after shipping to China. According to the company’s website, the product is ‘ethically’ made in its founder’s family factories.

Better than Cotton?

Leo Wang, the brain behind Buffy stated that they choose to model their version after silk fiber, based on the fact that once the pulp is liquefied it can be made into a fiber of any shape. Adding more about the intricacies of the fiber used, Wang stated” If you pluck out one of the fibers from our comforters and put it under a microscope, you’ll see that it has no strange irregularities or coarseness.”

As per the company’s claims on the website, Eucalyptus fabric is naturally softer and more planet-friendly compared to cotton. Not only this, but the same fiber also requires less water and land to produce. From this, Buffy claims to have conversed as much as 100,000,000 gallons of water to date, thanks to their sustainable outlook.
