How to Choose Essential Oil for Your Homemade Perfume

For you to know the essence that suits you, it is necessary to know the six families of perfumes. Then you can choose the one best for you!

Classification of types of perfumes

This classification is based on the six olfactory families, which are divided into six groups. Some of these groups are most commonly used in men’s perfumes, and others in women’s perfumes. Either way, you can mix essential oils from these groups according to your preference and make an excellent homemade perfume.

OLFACTIVE GROUPS

Woody

The intense and warm aromas and the main essential oils of this group are sandalwoods, cedar, wild pine, patchouli, and vetiver.

This group has lighter, radiant, soft, and refreshing aromas, the main essential oils belonging to this group are lemon, tangerine, and orange.

Florals

This aromatic group exudes elegance, discretion, refinement, and sensuality, with the sweet aromas of flowers, which can be found mainly in essential oils: sweet Allis, jasmine, lavender, gardenia, and rose.

Fougère

Perfumes of this group are characterized by emanating freshness, vitality, purity, and daring, related to the aromas of herbs and herbaceous plants and which are present mainly in the following essential oils: oak moss, mint, seaweed, cinnamon, and basil.
