Lettuce Has Heartbeat? Shocking News for an Australian Farmer

by | April 11, 2019

“It’s alive!” Apparently, vegans today have been claiming that lettuce has heartbeat. We all know that artichoke hearts exist, but claiming that lettuce has a heartbeat is a whole new level of humanization. This claim, much like the one surrounding the false idea that plants have feelings, didn’t come from an omnivore but from a vegan. Trust me, I’m just as baffled as you are. Keep reading to learn more on this rather bizarre story.

Brendan Farrell, founder of the Burrumbuttock Hay Runners charity which donates hay to farmers suffering from the drought, has claimed that he has received an influx of upset calls from vegans following his angry Facebook video condemning them for protesting this past Monday. In his short video, he said how vegans were going “bananas” and described how he perceived the protests, with people, “locking themselves up here, there, and everywhere.” He claimed that he has received many phone calls from vegans and that there was a woman who had shared with him that lettuce has heartbeat.

The protest took place in Melbourne, Australia and it resulted in 39 arrests. The demonstration was carried out in protest of the meat industry, protestors trespassed into abattoirs and chained themselves up. The Prime Minister of Australia, Scott Morrison, did not condone the protests and he said that they were causing destruction to the farmers. There were overall mixed reactions on the protests, some angry at the vegans for causing disruptions and others were more understanding and even supportive of what was being done.

Farrell also made fun of vegans by talking about how he will enjoy a steak dinner for Christmas after he kills one of his cows. “I’m out feeding cows and I can tell you what there’s a steer here that’s going to be bloody delicious at Christmas time,” he said, “I can’t wait to hook into it. That’s just me. That’s what we do.” I hope that by ”we” you only mean yourself and not humanity.
