New York Vegan Activist Dies Tragically After Being Fatally Hit by Subway Train

According to Daily News, the findings failed to identify the person initially, but later confirmed it was Douglas Greene. The Daily News stated the police reported the death of a man who was ‘fatally struck by a train’ after he fell on the Upper West Side subway tracks on the 4th of June. No suspicion of foul play was found by the police.

Soon after the news surfaced, the initially unidentified person, later recognized as Greene, happened to be a longstanding member of Empire State NORML. This was realized as people started to post their condolences on Facebook. Police later confirmed it was him, media outlet Celeb Stoner reports.

According to Forbes coverage, Douglas was an ‘ardent advocate’ of the cannabis legalization movement. He reportedly participated in a number of activism events like the New York Cannabis Parade for example; alongside scrutinizing ‘proposed cannabis legislation at an expert level,’ Forbes reports. Also a vegan activist, Douglas reportedly credited veganism for his ‘robust appearance.’

What Happened?

The New York Police Department told Forbes the investigation of the tragedy is still underway. The police added that an eyewitness told them Greene “fell onto the roadbed as a Southbound A train was pulling into the station,” thereby striking him fatally at 10: 40 pm.

The 52-year-old vegan activist has had decades of activism to his credit. According to Forbes, Greene being a movie buff and a music aficionado, was attending a concert at Central Park’s SummerStage in Rumsey Playfield on Tuesday night with a colleague and friend.

After attending the event, he headed to the Upper West Side’s 72nd Street subway station. He was presumably going to catch a train to Penn Station to get to his home in Nassau County on Long Island. Unfortunately, he never returned home.
